Στο πλαίσιο των ομιλιών του ΟΤΕΝ, αυτή την εβδομάδα έχουμε τη χαρά να φιλοξενούμε τον κο Χριστόφορο Νίκου, Καθηγητή στο Πανεπιστήμιο Ιωαννίνων, στο Τμήμα Μηχανικών Η/Υ & Πληροφορικής.

«Ερευνητικές δραστηριότητες στον τομέα της Υπολογιστικής Όρασης στο Πανεπιστήμιο Ιωαννίνων».
Σύντομη περιγραφή παρουσίασης:
Η υπολογιστική όραση είναι κλάδος της τεχνητής νοημοσύνης ο οποίος πραγματεύεται την εξαγωγή συμπερασμάτων από εικόνες και βίντεο. Στο πλαίσιο της ομιλίας, ο Καθηγητής κ. Χριστόφορος Νίκου θα παρουσιάσει τους άξονες της ερευνητικής δραστηριότητας της ομάδας του στο τμήμα Μηχανικών Η/Υ & Πληροφορικής του Πανεπιστημίου Ιωαννίνων σε εφαρμογές αναγνώρισης δραστηριότητας, εκτίμησης του φύλου και της ηλικίας, ανάλυσης χειρόγραφων κειμένων και ταυτοποίηση ανθρώπων με βάση λεκτική περιγραφή.
Σύντομο Βιογραφικό:
Christophoros Nikou received the Diploma in electrical engineering from the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Greece, in 1994 and the DEA and Ph.D. degrees in image processing and computer vision from Louis Pasteur University, Strasbourg, France, in 1995 and 1999, respectively. He was a Senior Researcher with the Department of Informatics, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki in 2001. From 2002 to 2004, he was a Research Engineer and Project Manager with Compucon S.A., Thessaloniki, Greece. He was Lecturer (2004- 2009), Assistant Professor (2009-2013), and Associate Professor (2013-2018) with the Department of Computer Science and Engineering, University of Ioannina, Ioannina, Greece, where he has been a Professor since 2018. During the academic year 2015-2016 he has been a Visiting Associate Professor at the Department of Computer Science, University of Houston, USA. Prof. Nikou was the General Chair of IEEE International Conference on Image Processing 2018 (ICIP’18). Since 2019 he is a member of the Conferences Board of the Signal Processing Society of IEEE. He is also an Associate Editor for IEEE Transactions on Image Processing. His research interests mainly include computer vision, pattern recognition, image processing and analysis and their application to medical imaging. He is a member of EURASIP and an IEEE Senior Member.
Prof. Nikou has been awarded twice the highly selective Marie Sklodowska-Curie fellowship from the European Commission (1996 and 2015). He has participated in 8 National and European research and development projects as principal investigator. During the last 2 years he has attracted 1M Euro research funding for the University of Ioannina in. He has been regularly serving as an evaluator of research proposals for the national research committees in Greece, France, Romania and Poland. He is an Associate Editor of the EURASIP Journal on Advances in Signal Processing. He has been the advisor for five accomplished PhDs and he currently supervises 3 PhD students in his areas of interest. C. Nikou has coauthored 39 journal publications and 78 conference papers in top rank journals and conferences in computer vision, image processing and pattern recognition (IEEE Trans. Image Processing, IEEE Trans. Neural Networks, IEEE Trans. Medical Imaging, Computer Vision and Image Understanding, CVPR, ECCV, ECML-PKDD, MICCAI, ISBI), where he has been also serving as a reviewer. According to Scopus, his published work has 1728 cross-citations (h index=22) and according to Google Scholar his publications have 2921 citations (h-index =25). He was Program co-Chair of DSP 2013 and has served in the Program Committee of many Conferences.
